The existing Kilroot Array is currently the largest battery storage facility in Northern Ireland and is a battery-based alternative to peaking power plants. The facility enhances grid stability by providing fast response ancillary services.
With more efficient balancing of supply and demand, energy storage will lower costs to consumers, unlock the value of existing renewables and improve security of supply.
As part of the Kilroot Energy Park proposals, we could seek to build on the existing battery storage facility – potentially increasing to 100+MW.
